Valve announced a map and world overhaul in their Counter-Strike 2 reveal, breaking down three different tiers of map updates in the upcoming summer update. The “Touchstone” category includes maps that kept the majority of their structure and visual design from CS:GO, and includes legacy maps such as Dust2, Train, and Mirage. The second category includes maps that received significant changes to their textures, lighting, and reflections with the Source 2 engine. The videos showed Nuke and Ancient as examples of maps in this tier.

The last set includes maps that have received complete overhauls and were “fully rebuilt from the ground up” in order to utilize all the tools provided by the new graphics engine. Italy and Overpass were the two maps shown in the teasers as some of the oldest maps to receive the full makeover.
