A recent poll among Warzone fans has revealed that most now prefer Resurgence to Battle Royale, and by a lot.
When Warzone launched, it was already fairly late to the Battle Royale party. Even Blackout from the year before was nothing new, considering how long PUBG and Fortnite and had already been popular for. But despite being derivative in so many ways, Warzone’s Resurgence mode really did bring something new to the scene.
This was a faster, more high-octane form of BR gameplay, and CoD fans lapped it. Now, in Warzone Year 5, the Resurgence mode has superseded Battle Royale as the most popular mode among CoD fans.
67% Of Warzone Players Prefer Resurgence
A recent community poll by ModernWarzone has revealed that only a third of Warzone players still prefer the original Battle Royale mode:

So why do so many players prefer CoD’s faster BR-like experience to the OG? It might simply be that Resurgence is a better-designed mode, at least for CoD players who traditionally favor fast-paced action. But we think the maps also play a huge role.
Only Verdansk has been universally praised by the Warzone community, with Caldera, Al Mazrah and Urzikstan all receiving a decent amount of hate. But when we look at the Resurgence maps; Rebirth, Ashika, Vondel and Fortune’s Keep, it’s a different story. Ashika admittedly wasn’t as popular, but the other three are considered some of the best maps in Warzone history.
With Rebirth Island coming back into the map pool in a couple of months, we expect the trend of players preferring Resurgence will continue. Verdansk is also returning to Warzone at the end of the year, but will it be enough to get players hooked on BR again? We’re doubtful.
